SideQuest

Terms of Use

Last updated 2 October 2026 · Applies to the SideQuest iPhone app

These terms are the agreement between you and Thomas Quiroz, an individual rather than a company ("SideQuest", "we", "us"), for use of the SideQuest app. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them. If you don't agree, please don't use SideQuest.

The part that matters most

SideQuest puts you in a room — or a café, or a park — with people you don't know. We don't run background checks, we don't verify anyone's identity, and we are not there when you meet. Use your judgement and look after yourself. Section 6 is worth reading properly.

1. Who can use SideQuest

You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter this agreement. SideQuest arranges for people to meet in person, which is why it is for adults. One account per person. Don't use SideQuest if you have previously been removed from it.

2. Your account

Keep your sign-in details to yourself; anything done from your account is treated as done by you. Give us a real name or the name people actually know you by — not someone else's, and not something designed to mislead. Tell us if you think someone else is using your account.

3. What SideQuest is, and what it isn't

SideQuest shows you places, clears a map as you explore, and lets people organise small meet-ups called quests. We host the quests; we don't run them. A quest is arranged by the person who created it, and whether it happens, what it costs, and what it's actually like are down to them and the venue, not us.

Places, opening hours, and other details in the app can be wrong or out of date. Check before you rely on them.

4. The app is free

SideQuest currently costs nothing to use and contains no purchases. Any money you spend on a quest — food, entry, a coffee — you pay to the venue, never to us, and we take no part in it.

5. Community rules

SideQuest only works if it stays somewhere people are willing to turn up to. So:

Show up. If you say you're coming, come. If you can't, leave the quest early enough for the host to plan around it. We record whether people turn up and show it as a percentage on their profile.

Don't post or send any of the following. This list is the standard we enforce:

Videos you add to a place's page. You can add a link to a TikTok or an Instagram post to a place's page. Only add one that is public, is genuinely about that place, and does not break the list above. We look at each one before it appears, and we can decline or remove any of them.

Don't misuse the app itself — no scraping, no automated accounts, no trying to get at other people's data, no interfering with how it runs.

6. Meeting people in person

This is the part we most want you to read.

You take part in quests at your own risk, and you are responsible for your own safety and conduct when you do.

7. Reporting, blocking, and what we do about it

Every profile, quest, message, shared journal entry and video on a place's page has a report option, and you can block any user. Blocking someone immediately stops them contacting you, seeing your profile, joining your quests, or appearing to you.

We review reports and act on the ones that break section 5. Depending on what we find, we remove the content, warn the account, or remove the account entirely. Reports of the most serious content — sexual content involving minors, or a credible threat to someone's safety — are looked at first and can result in immediate removal.

Report abuse to TODO: contact email, or from inside the app.

8. Your content

What you write and post stays yours. To run the app we need your permission to store it and show it to the people it's meant for — so you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, copy, and display your content for the purpose of operating SideQuest, and to keep it while your account exists. That licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except where we have to keep something to comply with the law or to deal with a report.

Don't post content you don't have the right to post. We may remove anything that breaks these terms.

A video on a place's page belongs to whoever made it, not to the person who added the link and not to us. SideQuest stores and shows only the link; the video stays on TikTok or Instagram, under their terms. If a video of yours is linked from a place's page and you would rather it wasn't, email us and we will take the link down.

9. The commitment percentage

We record whether people turn up to quests they joined, and show it as a percentage on their profile. It is based on your phone being at the place, on your own answer afterwards, on a host's answer for smaller quests, and on whether you pulled out shortly before a quest started. Recent quests count for more than old ones.

It's a rough measure, not a judgement of you as a person, and we don't guarantee it's right in every case. If yours looks wrong, email us.

10. Ending things

You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Danger zone. We may suspend or remove your account if you break these terms, if we're required to, or if we stop running SideQuest. We'll give you notice where we reasonably can.

11. No warranties

SideQuest is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the information in it is accurate, and we don't make any warranty beyond what the law requires us to.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for anything that happens between you and another user, at a quest, or at a venue.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some places don't allow the exclusions above, in which case they don't apply to you.

13. Apple

SideQuest is distributed through the App Store, and these terms are between you and us — not with Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide support for SideQuest. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may tell Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; beyond that, Apple has no warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, any failure to meet a legal requirement, or a claim under consumer protection or privacy law, and is not responsible for investigating or resolving third-party claims that the app infringes intellectual property rights. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo, and that you are not on any U.S. Government restricted-parties list.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the State of California, United States, and disputes go to the courts there, except where your local consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim where you live.

15. Changes

We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and flag significant changes in the app. Continuing to use SideQuest after a change means you accept it.
